Parents of Autistic children are routinely encouraged to grieve for their Autistic children. The idea of grieving for a living child feels explicitly offensive for me as an Autistic adult. Despite this I try to practice empathy as a fellow parent and remember that we are made to feel like having a child with anything more than basic support needs is a moral failing.

For this reason, I have compiled a list of things related to autism, that are not centred in the child, that could be grieved instead.
