This is especially true for Black Autistic women. Oftentimes in healthcare our pain isn't taken seriously due to some medical professionals believing we can tolerate a great deal of pain. That belief is why the rates of Black mothers die in childbirth at higher rates than non-Black mothers. It's crucial that doctors have an understanding that their Autistic patients experience pain differently. It's also crucial to take intersectionality into consideration yet unfortunately too few doctors/medical professionals do.
